I was trying to decide if it’s better to write SOAR only when I have something thought-provoking to say, or include the everyday activities of my job hunt; this week is about the latter. My tale of two realities will still need to wait because I seem to have turned into Oprah when it comes to handing out decks.
COMPANY A GETS A DECK!! for an interview that’s today
COMPANY B GETS A DECK!! where the prompt should come today or tomorrow for me to work on over Labor Day weekend, and
LINKEDIN GETS A DECK!! though, in all fairness, they pay me to do so.
As tough as it is to find the focus, time, and energy to make all of these decks, I don’t see them as a such a bad thing in the grand scheme of things. I think how I present a deck can say so much in terms of thinking process, storytelling, and style, among other things, so if I don’t move on to the next round, then it’s just not meant to be. All I can do is show up as my best; the rest is out of my hands.
I’m not gonna lie, though - I’m pretty tired right now. My apartment is an absolute disaster. And I can’t wait to step away from my computer. So, while I’m obsessing details such as colors, line spacing, and fonts according to various brand guidelines, I hope you’re distancing yourself from technology this weekend.
Oh, one last thing - so much of the world is going through so much. It’s hard not to think about how I’m sitting in the comfort of my messy home making these decks while so many people have been displaced by the devastations of Hurricane Ida, the Caldor Fire, etc. If you’re looking for ways to help, the Red Cross lets you choose the cause you’d like to provide aid to and World Central Kitchen is an incredible organization that José Andrés started to make sure people continue to be nourished in times of crisis. Please consider donating if you’re able.
Can you recommend a resource to find temp work (in the Marketing and/or Communications field) while I'm looking for a new permanent job? Thank you.
